HACKERS CAN GET INTO YOUR NETWORK BY FAXING A PICTURE TO YOUR ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER!!
WINDOWS 10 and ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAMS
If you have Windows 10, you may start to experience issues with popular anti-virus programs such as McAfee, AVG, Malware Bytes, etc.
It appears that they may be conflicting with the built-in Microsoft protection software called “Windows Defender”.
In theory, “Windows Defender” should render itself inactive when it senses that another anti-virus program has been installed. Sometimes this doesn’t happen, so you may have to play around with some program settings.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN (OR KNOW OF ANYONE) HACKED OR BEEN A VICTIM OF RANSOMWARE or MALWARE?
Interestingly, we have found some advanced instances where the hacker also secretly installed an undetectable “back door” when the hack occurred.
The victim has successfully blocked the primary breach but, unfortunately, does not know of the secondary “back door” that was also installed.
What happens in this case is that this “back door” can quietly send out important company information such as user ids, passwords, customer lists, and financial information — without the knowledge of the victim and undetectable by anti-virus software.
Sometimes, these “back doors” can even open up a temporary doorway for the hacker to come back in with some form of remote access.
If you know of anyone who has been hacked in the past and who feels that something is just not right (intermittent slow bandwidth, sluggish server, etc.), this may be the reason.
If they feel uneasy and cannot find an issue, have them give us a call at (805) 445-4833.
COMPANY INSURANCE POLICY SUGGESTION
If you don’t already have it, you may want to consider adding Cyber Security insurance to you company business insurance.
The insurance may not save you from a cyberattack, but it could have help you recover some of your hard dollar losses in case this happens to you.
The cost is usually VERY reasonable.

TECH ADVICE/TRIVIA – EVER WONDER WHY YOUR DISK SPACE SIZE CALCULATIONS ARE NOT RIGHT?
Most likely this is because you think that 1KB is 1,000 bytes.
Actually, 1KB is 1,024 bytes.
This in itself is not too different from 1,000. However if you are calculating 1MB (1Mega Bytes), you could be off by a bunch.
1MB is actually 1024×1024 bytes. Which is actually equal to – 1,048,576 bytes NOT 1,000,000 bytes.
This is a significant difference.
The same applies to 1GB. 1GB is equal to 1024x1024x1024 bytes or 1,073741,824 bytes, not 1,000,000,000 bytes.
As you can see, as you go up in scale, assuming 1KB is 1,000 bytes can lead to a sizeable error.
